Saint Joe's "Bread for All" Community Supported Bakery

Bread for all logoSaint Joe's recently started up the Bread for All Community Supported Bakery under the guidance of RCW member, Peg Gefell and Paul Frazier of the Syracuse Catholic Worker.

Bread for All's first initiative is a small-scale bread baking project. Saint Joe's trainees will put on an apron, measure the flour and mix up pound-and-a-half loaves of healthy and tasty whole wheat bread. The bakers learn a skill that will last a lifetime, and earn some cash while we get to experience their great-tasting bread.

During the start up phase, thirty members of the community have signed up for a fresh loaf a week for ten weeks. The model is similar to a CSA share, except the subscribers don't have to volunteer to bake the bread. They just have to pick it up and enjoy every crumb.

Is there anything that smells better than freshly toasted whole wheat bread in the morning? Hmmmm.

In addition to great tasting bread, subscribers are also making it possible for us to deliver fresh bread to those who cannot afford a loaf.

To become a bread subscriber, call Mirabai at 232-3262.

So stop loafing and pick up that phone!
